The Model Specification - The Roadmap

Detail specification usually provides guidance as to what must be demonstrate / tested during the flight test program. The contract usually names the Model Specification that presents the aircraft guarantees and further identifies other specification to which the compliance is expected. Several approaches to compliance are possible; demonstrations, analytical compliance and inspection.

Demonstrations can be used for compliance where no technical adjustment to the measured results is necessary. Items like personnel evacuation time, engine-out gear up time, turning radius and such are candidates for demonstrations.

Analytical Compliance are those items where data much be gathered and analytical corrections applied that converts the results to some agreeable standard. Items such as aircraft range, rate of climb, takeoff distance and such are candidates for analytical compliance.

Inspection are those items that simply work or don't work based upon operating the device. Items such as ease of door opening and closing, placement of switches, cargo compartment lighting and such are candidates for inspection.

Most of you have seen todays specifications. They have increased in size and complexity since the days-of-yor. Next you will see one of the earliest aircraft specifications on record.
